We believe Downtown
Pleasanton needs a strong, vibrant commercial and residential core in order to thrive. While
reviewing and implementing the Historical Preservation documents it is critical that the City
creates an environment that encourages reinvestment in our downtown, both commercial and
residential, while remaining sensitive to historic properties.
• FAR-We would like the limitations pertaining to Floor Area Ratio (FAR) be removed and
the FAR requirements for downtown to remain consistent with the rest of the
community.
• Cutoff Year for Determining Historical Significance —We believe this should be 1900
and older, not 1942 as is being proposed.
• Demolition Definition—We believe the definition should be consistent with the
definition used for the entire City of Pleasanton.
• Exclusion of Commercial Properties—We applaud the decision to exclude commercial
properties from the Historical Preservation Guidelines and expect that commercial
properties will remain exempt from these Guidelines.
We are fortunate that our commercial district is surrounded by an established and dynamic
residential district. We sincerely hope that you will encourage thoughtful and creative
reinvestment and redevelopment of our downtown residential area so that both current and
future residents can all benefit from this place we love.
Pleasanton Downtown Association
4725 First Street,Suite 200, Pleasanton,CA 94566
www.pleasantondowntown.net
