BACKGROUND
On April 16, 2013, Council awarded the contract to the lowest responsible bidder,
Fanfa, Inc. in the amount of $220,000. The project restored the roadway profile to the
design grade to provide a safe travel way for both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. The
curb lane in the east bound direction on West Las Positas between Hacienda Drive and
Stoneridge Drive is now re-open to vehicular traffic. Approximately 500 cubic yards of
existing soil under the severely distressed area was replaced by light-weight cellular
concrete material and approximately 1,200 square feet of less severely distressed area
was repaired by a conventional base repair construction method. This project also
included the replacement of 340 feet of existing concrete curb and gutter, 2,200 square
feet of existing sidewalk, and two ADA curb ramps. This project also overlaid existing
roadway surface with asphalt concrete within the project limits.
DISCUSSION
This project is expected to reduce the on-going roadway repairs, thereby reducing long-
term operation and maintenance costs.
Contract change orders totaling $7,291.82 were primarily the result of a net increase in
the contract quantities and fall within the approved contingency amount of $33,000.
The final project funding and expenditures are summarized in Attachment 1 to this
report, indicating total project expenditure of $255,683, and an unspent balance of
$35,059. Additional funds totaling $250,000 were added with the 2013-14 CIP budget
to fund repairs to other sections of West Las Positas Boulevard that are experiencing
settling issues. Staff is recommending the $35,059 balance be retained in the project to
supplement the funds available for future West Last Positas repairs
All of the work has been completed to the City's satisfaction. This project is now
complete and ready for City Council acceptance.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved by:
Brian Dolan Emily agner Nelson Fialho
Director of Director of Finance City Manager
Community Development
Attachment:
1.
