BACKGROUND
On January 15, 2013, City Council awarded the construction contract to Caggiano
General Engineering in the amount of $498,603.30. The City Council also authorized
the Director of Community Development to approve and execute required contract
change orders to address unanticipated project conditions for a not-to-exceed amount
of$74,790.
DISCUSSION
This project is part of the City's on-going maintenance program to replace aging
underground water facilities that have a potential for breakage and leaks. This project
was high on the City's priority list due to the poor condition of the existing 12" cast iron
water main installed in the mid-1950s, and the timing of the upcoming resurfacing
project along Vineyard Avenue. This project upgraded the inlet yard piping in the
Vineyard Avenue pump station which improves water quality in the area by providing
better blending of water sources.
Construction change orders for the project resulted in a net increase of $13,318.91,
which is approximately 2.7% of the original contract amount. Change orders included:
the removing an existing valve not shown on the plans; removing thicker AC pavement
sections than anticipated; correcting existing deficiencies at four water meters; installing
an additional 8" water valve; and removing and replacing approximately 50 feet of
misaligned 12" cast iron water main for the fusible 8" PVC installation.
Total project expenditures are $523,175 (see Attachment 1, for Funding and
Expenditure Summary) leaving an unspent balance of $66,180.29 remaining, which
staff recommends be returned to the Water Replacement Fund balance.
All of the contract work has been completed to the City's satisfaction. This project is
now complete and ready for City Council acceptance.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved y:„are,/
Brian D an Emily Wager Nelson Fialho
Director of Director of Finance City Manager
Community Development
Attachments:
1.
