Karen Diaz iueTFR1AL
pf"CChhEli'rLL ...^ -
Subject: FW: P13-2078 Summerhill Apartment Communities-Concitr to
the City Council
Att4t istributiorr of packet
From: /" '/t
Sent: Thursday, September 12, 2013 10:25 PM pate,
To: Jenny Soo; Karla Brown; Nelson Fialho; Jonathan Lowell; Pamela Ott; Mayor and City Council
Subject: P13-2078 Summerhill Apartment Communities - Concerns
Hello Ms. Soo and City of Pleasanton Officials,
We lived on 3204 Harvey Court and we bought the house early of 2009 because of the school. If we have
known the City is going to build an apartment on the other side of Arroyo we would not have bought the house
on Parkside.
Despite of the 4 stories high apartment which draw a lot of attention from Parkside neighborhood I would like
to touch on the school capacity. Our boy is currently in the Kindergarten grade at Donlon Elementary, there are
30 students per classroom. Every family are encouraged to make a donation of$350 to PPIE to improve the
educational quality and reduce the class size of Pleasanton district. With that 177 units of apartment, I could not
imagine how many students will need to be fit into a classroom. According to the latest news released today, the
Pleasanton School Board will not commit to built additional schools at the north and east side of Pleasanton as
we speak. We, as the resident of Pleasanton are now not only need to suffer crowded environment at school,
donate more money to let our children have a better educational quality yet have to endure the noise of the
construction and residents coming from that 177 units apartment. If you have young kids like me, I am sure you
do not wish that happen to your children either.
According to police department, whenever there is pool of cars the crime increased. Last year, there was a
drunk guy went through our backyard and we had to call the police. Imagine with the increased density of
population how much crime will occur in Pleasanton? How Pleasanton City is going to ensure Pleasanton
resident safety? it is a fact that Pleasanton is well known for its family oriented/ friendly environment, we want
to keep it that way for our children. I am worry of my family safety and I am sure you are as well.
In summary, despite on how many trees to be planted or how high the trees are going to get to serve as
screening, Parkside residents will be looking at the roof of 4 stories high apartment. You can plant all the trees
you want to serves as screening, have more strict renting guideline but how do you ensure to Parkside residents
there won't be noise from the apartments, there won't be any increase in crime? Please take a few seconds to put
yourself into our shoe, is this the quality of life you want your family to go through? If you don't neither do we.
Thank you for listening.
Melanie Lim
1
