BACKGROUND
This project consists of removing and replacing 5,050 SF of sidewalk that present
potential tripping hazards, 206 LF of curb and gutter that have cracks and drainage
problems, and installing 33 new intersection ramps and 2,000 SF of new sidewalk for
ADA accessibility. The locations are selected from the requests from the Traffic Division
and Operations Services Department. Additional work was added near Union Pacific
Railroad crossing at West Angela Street after the railroad company's rail replacement.
The City of Pleasanton's Engineering Division considers safety improvement urgency,
proximity to other locations requiring work, scheduling of other street projects, and
available budget when prioritizing locations to be improved each year.
DISCUSSION
Bids
The engineer's estimate for the project was calculated at $149,805. Sealed bids were
opened on August 13, 2013. Six bids were received that ranged from $146,430 to
$355,832 (see Attachment 2). The low bid was received from Rosas Brothers
Construction of Oakland, California. All bid documents were found to be in order and
past work performed by Rosas Brothers Construction was verified to be satisfactory.
Staff recommends award of the construction contract to Rosas Brothers Construction.
Budget
Staff recommends that the contingency amount for this project be sEit at 15% of the
construction contract due to potential expansion of project limits necessitated by defects
that may become apparent during the demolition phase. A project funding and
estimated expenditure summary is included as Attachment 3.
Schedule
The proposed schedule for the project is as follows:
Approval of Plans and Specifications/Award of Contract September 3, 2013
Start of Construction October 2013
End of Construction December 2013
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: l Approv d by:
Brian Dolan Emily Wagner a Nelson Fialho
Director of Director of Finance City Manager
Community Development
Attachments:
1.
