BACKGROUND
The Planning Division is in need of temporary Planning assistance to help existing staff
in reviewing and processing current planning applications and other planning activities,
including a number of active task forces, during the recruitment process for the
replacement of an Associate Planner who has resigned.
In June 2012, the City entered into a Professional Services Agreement with
Metropolitan Planning Group (MPG) to provide temporary contract planning services
while an Associate Planner was on maternity leave. For this Agreement, the Director of
Community Development contacted three planning firms that provide contract planning
services — LSA Associates, Inc., Urban Planning Partners, Inc., and Metropolitan
Planning Group (MPG) — and decided that MPG best met the City's need for an
experienced planner with City planning review experience. A brief description of the
firm and the resumes of the firm principal and the Temporary Contract Planner assigned
to the project is shown in Attachment 2.
Due to the urgent nature of the need for temporary contract planning services, the
recent search for a firm that could provide this type of service, and the satisfactory
performance of the selected firm (MPG), staff is recommending the award of the
attached contract to MPG.
PROFESSIONAL SERVICES AGREEMENT
The draft Professional Services Agreement in Attachment 1 is for a total not to exceed
$43,000. The contract stipulates an hourly rate of $90 for up to 40 hours a week for a
maximum of 13 weeks.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approved y:
A44)e
Brian Dolan Emily Wagner Nelson Fialho
Director of Director of Finance City Manager
Community Development
Attachments:
1.
