The Civic Arts Commission approved the mural and location, and are recommending
that the City Council approve the final design and installation of the historical mural
"Pioneer Founders" at 608 Main Street.
DISCUSSION
The mural will be approximately 24' width x 6 '/z height, and will be painted on six (6) 4'
x 8' panels made of Medium Density Overlay (MDO). MDO is made of hardwood
plywood with a resin soaked fiber overlay. This overlay provides an extremely smooth
surface that is also waterproof. The panels will then be affixed to the wall, via a bolt
system. Ms. Stanton will be the "Master Painter" and will oversee approximately 20
volunteers, as they help to complete the piece. Ms. Stanton estimates that the mural
should take about 8-12 weeks to complete.
The property owner of 608 Main Street has signed a "Letter of Intent to Participate"
signifying he agrees to have the mural installed on the wall adjacent lo his property's
driveway. This location provides the mural protection from the elements, is easily visible
and is in close proximity to the Museum on Main. The Harrington's, the City's art
conservator and staff, all believe that the proposed location and installation will
showcase the artwork.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: App rov a by:
Susan Andrade-Wax Emily Wagner Nelson Fialho
Community Services Director Director of Finance City Manager
Attachments:
1.
