Public Comment Christine Dillman, Director of Social Self-Services for Tri-Valley Haven, called the community's attention to the prevalence and often dire consequences of teen bullying. She stated that Tri-Valley Haven currently provides bully prevention and healthy relationship classes to middle and high school students throughout the Tri-Valley, including Pleasanton. Despite the extent to which teachers at Amador Valley and Foothill High Schools rely upon Tri-Valley Haven to provide this education, the organization has lost over 40% of its bullying and healthy relationship funding over the last several years due to government cutbacks, and the Department of Public Health is encouraging then to reach out to local agencies for assistance. She said that while the Youth Commission values the services offered by this program, it has run out of funds and rescinded its original offer to provide $4, 500 in funding for the next fiscal year. She requested that the Council authorize $5,400 for anti-bullying programs as well as an additional $4,000 for healthy relationship classes to be provided in Pleasanton middle and high schools during the 2013-2014 school year. Vice-Mayor Cook-Kallio agreed that bullying is a widespread and ongoing problem that extends beyond students to teachers. She also said the request seems to be a very small price to pay for people's safety. Melanie Sadek, Executive Director of Valley Humane Society, reported that local celebrity Juliette Goodrich has just published her fourth book, Paws Goes to the Library. She out'ined the moral of the book, which highlights the benefits of the Paws to Read program. The program provides an opportunity for Pleasanton youth to strengthen their reading skills through sessions at the local library where they read to Valley Humane Society canine comfort dogs. She reported that all proceeds from the book will benefit Valley Humane and the Canine Comfort Pet Therapy Program. Craig Schwab said he was concerned by recent rumors of a political scandal in Pleasanton and requested that the Council take action. John Bauer said that at the last Council meeting, every resident of Bridle Creek that was present have testimony regarding misrepresentations made by Greenbriar Homes.
