• Population changes and community demographics affect facility needs. <br /> • A Master Plan identifies facility needs to encourage equity throughout the District <br /> • A plan allows mindful use of funds in the short term, with long-range goals in mind. <br /> Why Now? <br /> • The last Master Plan was created over ten years ago. <br /> • Recent changes in planned residential development will impact facility needs. <br /> • Educational approaches to teaching 21st century skills are rapidly changing how teachers and <br /> students interact. <br /> • Sustainability and energy costs are critical to the District's long-term operation. <br /> Mr. Newsom added the Dolinka Group helped with the demographics and financial analysis and <br /> O'Connor Construction Management, Inc. helped with the cost estimating and scheduling for the <br /> improvements. <br /> Mr. Newsom highlighted the following: <br /> • Master Plan Process <br /> • Demographic Projections <br /> • Site Surveys <br /> • Financial Analysis <br /> • Educational Standards <br /> • Cost Estimating & Prioritization <br /> • Finalized Master Plan Recommendations <br /> • Scheduled Meetings by Phase <br /> • Data Collection <br /> • Facilities Needs Site Observations <br /> • Visioning & Educational Standards <br /> • Site Master Plans & Implementation <br /> • Final Plan <br /> • Committees & Stakeholder Input <br /> • Focused Input <br /> • School Site Input <br /> • Community Outreach <br /> • PUSD Board of Trustees <br /> • District Leadership <br /> • Facilities Master Plan Committee <br /> • There were over 500 people who participated in this process. <br /> • An on-line survey was conducted and over 250 teachers responded to the survey. <br /> • Guiding Principles for Facility Planning <br /> • Support Each Child's Needs <br /> • Maximize the Learning Experience <br /> • Meet the Challenge for the Changing Needs of the 21st Century <br /> • Remain Mindful of Health and Safety <br /> • Represent Centers of Community <br /> • Inclusive Stakeholder Input <br /> • Responsible Planning and Fiscal Health <br /> Councilmember Brown asked him to explain "support each child's needs".
