I believe the city needs to
be objective in deciding this issue and not simply decide that all roads are structures and should therefore be prohibited
by measure PP or vice-versa. Being objective requires that the decision be made on a case by case basis. For the Lund II
development in particular, I am not familiar with the stability of the hillside where an access road might be built. I am
also not familiar with the environmental impact or the impact of the road on aesthetics of the landscape. While those
are important considerations, the safety of our children and other residents of the Mission Hit Park neighborhood has
as much, if not more import than aesthetics. My evening commute home from Livermore used to take me through
Junipero St. past Mission Hills Park. On days when children/families had sports activities in the park, so many cars lined
the north side of Junipero street that there was only room for one car at a time to pass safely Also, traveling toward the
west past the park, a driver is presented with a blind curve. On days when the park was crowded with children and their
families, my biggest fear was that a child would dart out from between parked cars on that blind curve. I can only see
the danger increasing with an increased volume of traffic from the future Lund II development.
One of the responsibilities of the city council is to preserve (or enhance) the quality of life of the citizens they serve. My
home is on the corner of Junipero Street and Sonoma. This is an intersection with a four-way stop. Depending on the
time of day, it can require a small degree of patience for me to back in to my driveway as there can be a queue of cars at
the stop sign blocking my way. I only see the situation becoming worse with an entire new develoments worth of cars
traveling on Junipero Street during commute hours.
In closing, I ask you to consider whether a road should be allowed to be built on a hillside objectively-on a case by case
basis and to please take safety of our children at our community parks as a huge consideration in deciding.
Thank you,
Lisa Corsetti + Kathleen Bertron
1
