CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA ORDINANCE NO. 1027 ORDINANCE CONSOLIDATING PLEASANTON'S MUNICIPAL ELECTION WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION WttEREAS, Senate Bill 230 amended the Election and Government Codes to provide an option for general law cities in setting city elections; and ~EREAS, the City Council received a report from the City Attorney outlining the options available for consolidating elections; and WHEREAS, it is believed that consolidating the city election with the Statewide general election would save money on election expenses, save staff time and allow for a greater turnout of voters on city issues; THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: The municipal election shall be consolidated with the statewide general election, which is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November in even numbered years; said consolidation shall not take effect until after the April 13, 1982 general municipal election. Section 2: The terms of office of councilmembers and the city treasurer elected at April municipal elections shall be extended pursuant to the provisions of Section 36503.5 of the Government Code until the Tuesday after the day of the general municipal election in the year their term of office would have expired; all subsequent terms of office of councilmembers and city treasurers shall expire four years from the Tuesday succeeding their election. Section 3: The City Manager is directed to send this ordinance to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors for its approval. Section 4: This ordinance shall be published once within fifteen (15) days after its adoption in "The Valley Times," a newspaper of general circulation published in the City of Pleasanton.
