CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 1027 <br /> <br /> ORDINANCE CONSOLIDATING PLEASANTON'S MUNICIPAL <br /> ELECTION WITH THE STATEWIDE GENERAL ELECTION <br /> <br />WttEREAS, Senate Bill 230 amended the Election and Government <br /> Codes to provide an option for general law cities <br /> in setting city elections; and <br /> <br />~EREAS, the City Council received a report from the City <br /> Attorney outlining the options available for <br /> consolidating elections; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, it is believed that consolidating the city election <br /> with the Statewide general election would save <br /> money on election expenses, save staff time and <br /> allow for a greater turnout of voters on city <br /> issues; <br /> <br />THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES HEREBY <br />ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: The municipal election shall be consolidated <br /> with the statewide general election, which is held <br /> on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in <br /> November in even numbered years; said consolidation <br /> shall not take effect until after the April 13, <br /> 1982 general municipal election. <br /> <br />Section 2: The terms of office of councilmembers and the <br /> city treasurer elected at April municipal elections <br /> shall be extended pursuant to the provisions of <br /> Section 36503.5 of the Government Code until the <br /> Tuesday after the day of the general municipal <br /> election in the year their term of office would <br /> have expired; all subsequent terms of office of <br /> councilmembers and city treasurers shall expire <br /> four years from the Tuesday succeeding their <br /> election. <br /> <br />Section 3: The City Manager is directed to send this ordinance <br /> to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors for its <br /> approval. <br /> <br />Section 4: This ordinance shall be published once within <br /> fifteen (15) days after its adoption in "The <br /> Valley Times," a newspaper of general circulation <br /> published in the City of Pleasanton. <br /> <br /> <br />
