BACKGROUND <br /> This project consists of removing and replacing 2,542 SF of sidewalk that presents <br /> potential tripping hazards, 411 LF of curb and gutter that has cracks and drainage <br /> problems, damaged valley gutter and installing 8 new intersection ramps for ADA <br /> accessibility. The project will also include improvements near Stoneridge Drive at <br /> Guzman Drive and an ADA improvement near Dolores Bengtson Aquatic Center <br /> parking lot (see Attachment 1 for project locations). The locations are selected from the <br /> Street Resurfacing list and also from requests from the Traffic Division and Operations <br /> Services Department. <br /> DISCUSSION <br /> Bids <br /> The engineer's estimate for the project was calculated at $155,000. Sealed bids were <br /> opened on February 21, 2013. Nine bids were received that ranged from $152,021 to <br /> $305,153 (see Attachment 2). The low bid was received from Nor-Cal Concrete <br /> Company, Inc. of Suisun, California. All bid documents were found to be in order and <br /> past work performed by Nor-Cal Concrete was verified to be satisfactory. Staff <br /> recommends award of the construction contract to Nor-Cal Concrete Company, Inc. <br /> Budget <br /> Staff recommends that the contingency amount for this project be set at 15% of the <br /> construction contract due to potential expansion of project limits necessitated by defects <br /> that may become apparent during the demolition phase. The project budget should <br /> include $2,000 for the necessary engineering survey cost near Stoneridge Drive at <br /> Guzman Drive. The Operations Services Department requested ADA improvements at <br /> the Dolores Bengtson Aquatic Center parking lot. The cost for the parking lot work <br /> ($5,200) should be taken from the facilities renovation fund 043900-4385.
