JOINT MEETING A PLEASANTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT January 28, 2013 TITLE: State of the Schools/Academic Report RECOMMENDATION: This is an informational report. No action is required. SUMMARY: The Pleasanton Unified School District continues to thrive and make progress. In the past few years despite extreme financial challenges, students in Pleasanton have made great strides through high quality educational opportunities provided by our dedicated staff. BACKGROUND: The Pleasanton Unified School District new strategic plan was developed through collaboration with many groups, including students, staff, parents and community members. Our mission is to empower our students to "make a better world". Our vision for our students is to help them become "resourceful, resilient, responsible and engaged world citizens." This plan is our roadmap and the lens through which we make decisions impacting our programs. We continue to make growth and have witnessed outstanding academic achievement by our students. Our district has an exceptional reputation not only because of our stellar academic achievement but also our focus on the whole child with exemplary visual and performing arts, career technical education, strong student support systems, and incredibly supportive parents as well as highly engaged community members and businesses. We also benefit from a very collaborative relationship with the City of Pleasanton and in particular the Pleasanton Police Department. We are proud to be a part of this community which is an extraordinary place to live, work and educate children.
