Daniel Kendrick
4274 Fairlands Dr
Pleasanton, CA 94588
925.890.8162
Dear Pleasanton Planning Commission
Thank you for conducting hearings about plans for East Pleasanton. I am unable to attend the meeting
in person, but I ask you to consider my comments in this letter.
I have lived in Pleasanton with my family since 1994. My home is in East Pleasanton near the
intersection of 580 and Santa Rita Road. I also work in Pleasanton at Oracle. I feel blessed to have
shopping, schools, health facilities, employment, and parks all within walking distance of my home.
Overall Goals for Development.
Please plan for the long term future as we develop new neighborhoods. Think about what we will need
for the next 50 years.
• Pedestrian-Friendly. The single most important way enhance value in a community will be to
make it livable without requiring automobiles to obtain the essentials.
• A mixture of residential, commercial and light-industrial facilities is essential for the
community.
• The East Pleasanton location is ideal for high-density development. It is best to have residential
areas to support a range of income levels to support all the businesses in the community. We
need housing for cashiers as well as engineers and executives.
• Trees and beautiful landscaping is important for a sustainable community. Maintain a view of
the surrounding hills.
Specific Recommendations
Here are some recommendations I have for East Pleasanton.
• Include a park or plaza at the center.
• Connect to regional hike and bike trails.
• Most buildings in the area should be about 4 stories. Parking is in the basement under ground.
The first floor is commercial/shopping. The top 3 floors are either residential or light industrial.
Solar or wind collectors on the roof to generate electricity. I saw this model covering about 100
blocks in downtown Berlin, Germany and it seems to work beautifully there.
Bonus Features
The following are nice to have if there is space and no legal impediments. The area is relatively small
so there might not be room for all these.
• Investigate installing the Google Fiber Network as part of the community infrastructure. The
newest greatest communications technology is being set up in Kansas City, Missouri, now.
They are drawing innovators and expect to create the best next generation of computer and
telecommunications inventions. Pleasanton is ideally suited to join this movement because of
its proximity to Silicon Valley and the Livermore Lab.
• Pleasanton maintains ownership of utility infrastructure and easements. Buildings are wired
with communication networks owned by the city.
• Public Transit connectors.
• Community garden.
