accompanies this report.
CONCLUSION
The proposed changes to the Pleasanton Municipal Code are intended to establish
performance standards, noted above, for cottage food operations that will ensure that
such operators meet current City ordinances, standards, and/or requirements (i.e.,
parking, noise, etc.). Staff believes that the proposed Code amendments will have
minimal impact on residents and will meet the State Legislature's stated purpose of
these new laws (AB 1616 and AB 2297) to encourage small business development,
provide healthy and fresh food choices (particularly in low income and rural areas),
support community-based food production, legalize bake sales, and not subject home-
based food production to the same food safety requirements as other commercial food
producers.'
STAFF RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Planning Commission adopt a resolution recommending
approval of P12-1753 to the City Council with the proposed amendments shown in
Exhibit A.
Staff Planner: Natalie Amos,Associate Planner,(925)931-5613,namos o(),citvofpleasantonca.gov
See AB 1616, Section 1
P12-1753, Cottage Food Operations Planning Commission
Page 8 of 8
