CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION NO. 03-070 RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING PLEASANTON RESIDENTS AND EMPLOYEES TO RIDE WHEELS BUSES FOR FREE ON "SPARE THE AIR" DAYS WHEREAS, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District is conducting its voluntary Spare the Air program from June to October each year in the nine counties that comprise the San Francisco Bay Area; and WHEREAS, Spare the Air is now in its twelfth year and has more than 1,200 public and private employers who have pledged to participate in the Spare the Air program; and WHEREAS, the San Francisco Bay Area has experienced dramatic improvements in its air quality over the last 40 years, but still sees a large number of day during the year when pollution exceeds state and national health standards; and WHEREAS, when Spare the Air days are forecast, Bay Area residents are encouraged to reduce air polluting activities and use commute alternatives, such as riding public transportation, to help improve air quality in the region; and WHEREAS, the Livermore Amador alley Transportation Authority (LAVTA) has committed to support the Spare the Air campaign by offering free rides on WHEELS buses on designated Spare the Air days; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: The City Council does hereby encourage residents and employees to do their part this Spare the Air season by riding WHEELS buses for free on Spare the Air days and commends LAVTA for its participation in the 2003 Spare the Air Program and for acknowledging the importance of improving air quality, thus making a positive contribution to the quality of life in the City of Pleasanton.
