12. Proclamation recognizing May 2012 as Older Americans Month <br /> Councilmember Thorne introduced Ray Figueroa of the Pleasanton Senior Center as well as several <br /> members of the Center's advisory committee. <br /> Mr. Figueroa thanked the Council for this opportunity to recognize the contributions of seniors. He <br /> introduced ambassadors Claire Iglesias, Mary Tange, Eileen Finnel and Jim Work. <br /> Ms. Iglesias thanked the City for the opportunity to volunteer at and participate in the programs of such <br /> a wonderful facility. <br /> Councilmember Thorne read the proclamation recognizing May 2012 as Older Americans Month into <br /> the record. <br /> 13. Proclamation recognizing the Month of May as Bike-to-Work or School Month <br /> Councilmember Thorne read the proclamation recognizing the Month of May as Bike-to-Work or School <br /> Month. <br /> Economic Development Director Pamela Ott said the City has been particularly active in promoting <br /> commute alternatives to employees, local businesses and throughout the school district; Bike-to-Work <br /> week and the associated activities make a great difference in that effort. <br /> 14. Recognition of out-going Commission and Committee Members <br /> Mayor Hosterman recognized out-going Commissioners and Committee members for their service to <br /> the City: Tony Rivera, Civic Arts; Robert Gell, Economic Vitality; Christina Jason, Energy and the <br /> Environment; Barbara Hemphill, Housing; David Lambert, Human Services; Michael Todd, Library; <br /> Lauren Ancora, Phoebe Brown, Cody Elgiss, Adidi Janwar, Libby Colar, Judy Liu, Kara Matsuni, <br /> Catherine Mayor, and Emma Regal, Youth Commission. <br /> 15. Oaths of Office to Committee and Commission Members <br /> Mayor Hosterman introduced the following incoming Commission and Committee members: Karen <br /> Martens, Civic Arts; Nancy Allen, Olivia San Juan Henderson, Carine Knowles, and Gina Pepper, <br /> Economic Vitality; Steven Motsk, Energy and the Environment; Jamie Carollo, ACTIA <br /> Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory; Joseph Butler, Daniel Mermelstein, and Ann Welsh, Housing; Prashan <br /> Janwar, Human Services; Corey Cooper, Library Commission; and Jack Sefialo, Laurie Franklin, <br /> Michael Liamos, Naher Nikander, Jonathon Pearce, Katie Olmo, Taylor Sours, Erica Utica!, and Yandi <br /> Wu, Youth Commission. <br /> City Clerk Karen Diaz administered the Oath of Office. <br /> 16. Public Comment <br /> Holly Newman, Friends of Tassajara Valley, said she belongs to an informal alliance of residents and <br /> friends united against the construction of the proposed memorial park cemetery in the Tassajara Valley, <br /> and explained the Groups opposition to the proposed project. <br /> Jeff Harlan addressed Council regarding activities of the Pleasanton Police Department resulting in the <br /> apprehension of a suspect linked to the recent bicycle theft; and raised concerns about the integrity of <br /> some City of Pleasanton officers. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 3 of 11 May 1, 2012 <br />
