IN TH~ CITY COUNCIL OF TH~ CITY OF PLEASA~ON <br />COUNTY OF ALAMF~A, STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br /> R~0LUTION NO. ~ <br /> <br /> Calling for the Location of the Southern <br /> Alameda County State College in Pleasanton <br /> and Recommending a Site Therefor <br /> <br /> WH~R?~S the Legislature of the State of California has provided for <br />the location of a State College in Southern Alameda County for the purpose <br />of furnishing college level instruction to areas not now adequately served, <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the Pleasanton community offers a central location that will <br />eonYeniently and economically serve the whole of Southern Alameda as well as <br />the adjoining areas of Contra Costa and San Joaq~in Counties~ which have <br />large numbers of people who need and require reasonable access to State Col- <br />lege facilities, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the City of Pleasanton proposes the location of the State <br />College on a portion of six hundred acres of land, which in every respect, <br />meets the specifications adopted by the State Department of Education for <br />State College sites, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS the site proposed by the City of Pleasanton has additional <br />advantages - some of which are listed below - which are not all available in <br />any other location: <br /> <br /> l) The site is sufficiently large to provide for the college it- <br /> self and for the desirable commercial and residential adjuncts, vital <br /> to a balanced State College develo~aent. <br /> <br /> 2) The entire six hundred acre site is flat and unencumbered by <br /> rights-o£-way or buildinEs, and there are no installations in or on <br /> the ground that cannot be removed, relocated or eliminated. <br /> <br /> 3) The proposed Pleasanton sit% being in public ownership and <br /> having level topographical characteristics, may be acquired and <br /> developed with substantial economic advantages; additional economM <br /> may be realized through the joint use of adjacent public land for <br /> parking space, sports events, recreational facilities, etc. <br /> <br /> <br />
