THE CITY OF
pL£ASANTONC CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
July 17, 2012
City Attorney
TITLE: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION SETTING FORTH SETTLEMENT
AUTHORITY FOR GOVERNMENT CLAIMS AND WORKERS'
COMPENSATION CLAIMS AGAINST THE CITY OF PLEASANTON
SUMMARY
The proposed resolution grants authority to the City Attorney and City Manager to settle
government claims in amounts up to $50,000 and Workers' Compensation claims in
amounts up to $100,000. These amounts are consistent with the City's current
spending authorization policy.
RECOMMENDATION
Approve the resolution granting settlement authority to the City Attorney and City
Manager to settle government claims in amounts up to $50,000 and Workers'
Compensation claims in amounts up to $100,000.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There will be no additional cost to the City arising from this action. Funds are currently
budgeted for the resolution of claims and litigation. There is a potential for savings,
which cannot accurately be quantified, stemming from the ability to more quickly resolve
claims (possibly for lesser amounts) thereby avoiding costly litigation, and reduced staff
resources spent preparing for and participating in closed sessions.
