Recognition of Donors for the Regional Food Storage Project <br /> Councilmember McGovern introduced Community Services Manager Yurchak and commended the <br /> Human Services Commission on the accomplishment. <br /> Ms. Yurchak provided a brief history of the project and, on behalf of the Commission, thanked the <br /> Council and other donors for the financial support that made it possible. She introduced Josh Thurman, <br /> Deputy Chief of Staff for Supervisor Haggerty's office, and stated that Mr. Thurman would accept the <br /> commendation in Supervisor Miley's absence. She also introduced Linda McKeever, Executive Director <br /> of Open Heart Kitchen, and Wendy Gutshall, Public and Government Affairs Manager for Safeway, Inc. <br /> 13. Public Comment <br /> Fred Norman stated that 136 American military have been killed in Afghanistan this year, bringing the <br /> grand total to 2,000. He acknowledged the Council's policy against discussing such matters but hoped <br /> for an expression of sadness at this news. <br /> Cathe Norman read the names of the 27 American military killed in Afghanistan since the last meeting. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 2 of 11 June 5, 2012 <br />
