In this structure, three levels of municipal participation are available:
Municipal Board Members
With a $25,000 annual investment, the city would be a full voting member on the two
non-profit boards and be fully represented and promoted in all marketing, branding and
advocacy efforts. Only five cities may be Municipal Board Members.
Municipal Affiliates
With a $10,000 annual investment, the city would provide input through the Mayoral
Advisory Committee and be acknowledged in co-branding efforts. A limited number of
cities may be Municipal Affiliates.
Associate Municipal Partners
With no financial investment, the city would be kept informed of i-GATE efforts but not
included in marketing or promotional efforts.
Currently, four cities have taken action to participate as Municipal Board Members:
Livermore, Dublin, Danville and Davis. Alameda County will also be participating at this
level. The Cities of Tracy, Lathrop and Fremont have either indicated intention or have
committed to contribute at the Municipal Affiliate level. Additionally, several cities that
are not currently involved in i-GATE have expressed interest in participating at the
Municipal Affiliate level.
Staff is recommending the City of Pleasanton's participation as a Municipal Board
Member with a financial contribution of $25,000 for FY2012-2013. Pleasanton will
benefit from this in a variety of ways, including:
• direct connection with a green technology and energy incubator;
• access for Pleasanton companies to resources from national laboratories and
other research and development agencies/organizations;
• association with an alliance of higher education institutions;
• participation in planned Entrepreneurial Academy and Business Plan
Competition events;
• business development programs designed for, and hosted in, Pleasanton;
• strengthening Pleasanton's position as an excellent location for i-GATE and other
entrepreneurial start-up companies; and
• identification of Pleasanton along with neighboring Tri-Valley cities in marketing
and promotional efforts with a broader reach than an individual City could garner.
City Economic Development Department staff will work closely with i-GATE staff to
ensure the desired outcomes are developed and implemented.
The $25,000 funding will be allocated to the General Government Program as part of
the mid-term update to the City's budget.
Page 3 of 4
