CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> ORDINANCE NO. 570 <br /> REGULATING OPERATION OF BICYCLES UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS <br /> OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS <br /> FOLLOWS : <br /> Section 1 . Bicycle: Definition: <br /> A bicycle is a device upon which any person may ride <br /> propelled by human power through a belt , chain or <br /> gears and having either two or three wheels in a <br /> tandem or tricycle arrangement . <br /> Section 2 . Bicycle : Brakes : <br /> No person shall operate a bicycle unless it is equipped <br /> with a brake which will enable the operator to make <br /> one braked wheel skid on dry, level, clean pavement . <br /> Section 3 . Bicycle Racing and Endurance Contests : <br /> No person riding or operating a bicycle upon a public <br /> street shall participate in any race, speed or endur- <br /> ance contest unless such race , speed or endurance <br /> contest has the permission of the City Manager and is <br /> under supervision of the Chief of Police . <br /> Section 4 . Stunt Riding: <br /> No person riding or operating a bicycle upon a public <br /> street shall engage in any acrobatics or stunt riding. <br /> Section 5 . Riding Two Abreast : <br /> Persons riding or operating bicycles shall not ride or <br /> operate bicycles more than two ( 2) abreast , except on <br /> paths or parts of a roadway set aside for the exclusive <br /> use of bicycles . <br />
