$0.00 Child Care Links— Youth
Commissioners felt the request was for a program that was similar to one already
being provided. They did not feel the program would meet requirements from the
Youth Master Plan, and that no clear direction was given in the application about
what the agency wanted to do with the program. The Commission concerns
included: having funds requested be used for staff salaries; Board members'
requirements; the age group to be served; and being unsure about the programs
goal.
$7,280 Axis Community Health —Teen Drug & Alcohol Recovery Program
Commissioners felt this was a much-needed program. They questioned whether
Axis was partnering with the Pleasanton Unified School District for this off-site
program and whether the program was free to students. The Commission was
pleased that Axis asked for only the amount needed to purchase the Smart Board.
$7,500 Abbie 4-H — Bernal Property 4-H Farm Complex
Commissioners were pleased that this funding request was for something different
than other requests and would eventually offer a variety of activities for youth.
They also liked that, when completed, the facility would be made available for
other groups to use. The Commission requested that Abbie 4-H return to the
Commission periodically with information about the site design, etc.
$0.0 Easter Seals Bay Area — Kaleidoscope After School Program
The Commission was disappointed that no presentation was made to them for this
funding request. They requested that if any outreach is done by Easter Seals to
staff that they be requested to present to the Commission to provide information on
why they did not present at this meeting.
A motion was made by Commissioner Malindzak, seconded by Commissioner Ancora,
recommending the City Council consider the following funding recommendations for Fiscal Year
2012/2013 Community Grant Funds in the Youth category:
$ 7,500 Tri-Valley Haven -Anti-bullying Project
$ 4,000 Amador Livermore Valley Historical Society— Traveling Trunk: Local History
$ 0.00 Child Care Links—Youth
$ 7,280 Axis Community Health — Teen Drug & Alcohol Recovery Program Enhancement
$ 7,500 Abbie 4-H — Bernal Property 4-H Farm Complex
$ 0.00 Easter Seals Bay Area — Kaleidoscope After School Program
$26,280 TOTAL
ROLL CALL VOTE:
AYES: Commissioners Ancora, Brown, Hadley, Lu, Malindzak, Mallie, Matsune, Mayo,
Rigl, Utikal, and Chairperson Ellgas
NOES: None
ABSENT: Commissioners Jhanwar and Kolar.
ABSTAIN: None
Youth Commission Minutes
March 14, 2012
Page 4
