CITY COUNCIL JOINTT MEETING
OF TRUSTEES n1 Y
p_
— ICI'
PLEASANTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
April 23, 2012
TITLE: OVERVIEW OF DISTRICT FACILITIES MASTER PLAN AND
DEMOGRAPHIC STUDY
SUMMARY
This agenda report provides an overview of the Pleasanton Unified School District
(PUSD) facilities master plan as well as the demographic study with an emphasis on the
methodology used to develop enrollment projections.
BACKGROUND
The Pleasanton Unified School District is in the process of creating a Facilities Master
Plan (FMP). This FMP will be used as a strategic tool, enabling the District to identify
and prioritize short- and long-term facility goals over the next 10 to 20 years. The
objective in this process is to obtain as much feedback from varied District stakeholder
groups as possible so that the District may develop a comprehensive plan that
incorporates diverse input. District staff will provide an overview of the process including
key tasks, the plan to collect input from committees and other stakeholders, and a
status update on the work completed to date.
A critical component of the FMP is an update of the PUSD demographic study. A
representative of Davis Demographics and Planning, Inc. will provide a detailed
overview of their methodology and the factors used to calculate the three projections
requested by the District: ten year projections, maturation projections and transitional
kindergarten projections. The factors are detailed in the slide presentation following this
narrative. Please note that this overview will focus on methodology; all discussion of
findings and results will be reserved for a meeting of the PUSD Board of Trustees.
Respectfully submitted,
y„ 2 — < > <<->_
Parvin Ahmadi
Superintendent
Attachments:
1.
