)
Hearing for P11-0731
Fence between 3647 and 3633 Glacier Ct. North — Baker Talking Points
Prior to construction: We discussed and agreed to each of the following requirements.
Mr. Pretzel's requirements:
I.2x 12 HD baseboards be attached to 4x4 posts on my side. To hold back higher soil level on my side due
to grading for my swimming pool.
2. Cardboard cones be used to increase the amount of concrete around 4x4 post bases.
Baker requirements.
I. No red paint be applied to new fence wood on Mr. Pretzel's side to avoid bleeding through to my side.
Based on my one requirement Mr. Pretzel said he wished to put up the old painted wood on his side after
the new fence was completed. I agreed. I also agreed to mount the new face boards on my side for his
convenience.
Mr. Pretzel agreed to my requirement not to use any red paint on the new fence.
Mr. Pretzel agreed to reimburse me for half the cost of the new materials. He did.
There was no discussion of, or demand for, a height restriction for the completed fence.
During Construction:
All wood used was redwood.
New fence frame was constructed with 3 instead of 2 2x4 cross members for added strength.
2x4 blocks were attached to 4x4 posts using galvanized wood screws to support 2x4 cross members for
added strength.
All face boards were attached with galvanized wood screws.
A 4x6 post was used at the street end for added strength for future gate construction.
All labor was performed by me. Construction took a little more than I week.
During construction Mr. Pretzel observed its progress and had no complaints and requested no changes. No
height limits were discussed or requested.
After Construction Completion
The future addition of gates was discussed with Mr. Pretzel.
I advised him that I would be completing my gate after completing concrete work on my side.
After completion of my gate I planned to reduce the height of the two fence sections at the gate end
(approx. 12 ft.)to the same height of the gate. Approx. 6 feet high.
Mr. Pretzel said he agreed with the plan for my gate and was pleased with the completion of the fence as a
whole up to that point. He made no comment on the height of the fence and made no demands to lower it.
A permit application was prepared and submitted to the city planning department. It included sketches of
the fence with dimensions, photos and copies of material receipts. It was signed by myself and Mr. Pretzel
and submitted on 8/31/11.
