TYLININTERNATIONAL EXHIBIT A
engineers I planners I scientists
December 12, 2011
Mr. Joshua Pack
Senior Transportation Engineer
City of Pleasanton
Community Development Department
Traffic Division
200 Old Bernal Avenue
Pleasanton, CA 94566
Subject: 1-5801 Foothill Interchange Improvement Project
Amendment 2 Request—Right of Way Mapping and Caltrans Utility Permit
Pleasanton PSA: 10-663C
TYLI Project Number: 320126.1T
Dear Mr. Pack:
This letter is our formal request for a contract amendment to cover the cost of preparing the
necessary Hard Copy Mapping for the retaining wall footing easement on the Marriott
Residence Inn property and for preparing a Longitudinal Utility Encroachment Exception as
required by Caltrans.
Hard Copy Mapping for Retaining Wall Footing
The 1-580/ Foothill Interchange Improvement Project includes widening and realigning the
existing eastbound Foothill off ramp. This realignment and widening requires filling a portion of
the drainage channel along the westbound Foothill off ramp adjacent to the Marriott Residence
Inn parking lot and constructing a retaining wall. Due to the poor soils and high groundwater at
this location the retaining wall foundation will be supported by piles approximately 55 feet long.
Numerous piles will have a batter(slope) of 3:1 in order to support the retaining wall.
The bottom of these batter piles will encroach approximately 16 feet into the Marriott Residence
Inn property. These piles will be underground and will not have a permanent impact on the
landscaped area or the surface parking lot of the Marriott Residence Inn. It may be necessary to
temporarily close approximately 15 parking spaces during construction of the retaining wall. The
existing landscape area will be replanted once the retaining wall construction is completed.
We need to obtain an underground footing easement and temporary construction easement
from the Marriott Residence Inn for the piles. We will need to follow Caltrans requirements and
processes for obtaining this easement since it will ultimately be a Caltrans easement. The
Caltrans process requires that we prepare a Hard Copy Map of this area showing the existing
right of way and the proposed easement, and a plat and legal description for the easement.
Once the map, plat, and legal description are approved by Caltrans the City can have a certified
right of way agent proceed with the appraisal and acquisition of the easement.
2010 Crow Canyon Place,Suite 350 I San Ramon,California 94583 I T 925.365.3960 I F 925.275.0117 I www.tylin.com
P:a2012e-FoothlIMdmin_Setup&Aalg\4cope&FeeeWnendment 21FoothIll IC Amendment 2 Cover Letter and Scope 12-12-11.doc
