Councilmember McGovern asked if and how Pleasanton fire, separate from Livermore, could pay off its
unfunded liability. Mr. Bartel said this can be done, as they do something similar for a Fire District that
has several participating cities on retiree medical. They each have a different philosophy when it comes
to prefunding retiree medical.
Councilmembers thanked Mr. Bartel for his thorough presentation and his ability to convey the
information in an understandable fashion.
Mayor Hosterman opened t public comment.
Jason Solik recognized the challenges ahead and over several months he expressed his philosophy of
negotiations which is about building relationships, and there is a great relationship with both Livermore
and Pleasanton. He thanked Mr. Bartel for his presentation, thinks the numbers and facts are objective
and useful during negotiations.
MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL - None
COUNCIL REPORTS - None
CLOSED SESSION — CONFERENCE WITH LABOR NEGOTIATORS pursuant to Government Code
§54957.6: Agency representatives: Nelson Fialho and Julie Yuan-Miu
Employee organizations: International Association of Firefighters Local 1974
The meeting was adjourned to closed session at 9:15 p.m. The Council extended a tribute to our
nation's men and women serving in the military.
