Councilmember McGovern said when returning to rezone properties, she wants to look at the
City as a whole because light industrial and public and institutional are proposed to be rezoned.
These are important kinds of land use that the City does not want to market itself out of,
especially when there will be start-up companies and clean and green industries. She also
suggested looking at Site 18 because both Planning Commissioners that were on the task force
did not want Site 18 to be on the list. The reason why is that the City has thought about
purchasing this property for a long time and using it as part of its civic center and library
remodel, for possible TOD, and she thinks the City should make a decision as to whether it will
or will not purchase this property. If it is going to purchase it, discussions should occur as to how
it will be used best. What also bothers her is that there is no letter of support for the zoning
change from the owner of the property. As time moves forward to HCD, she suggested the City
focus on whether it will purchase this property and how it may use it. Also to be cleared up is
properties in Hacienda for housing, and she suggested pushing the issue that if it is going to
residential, it will reduce commercial which is not fair to continue doing.
Councilmember Sullivan agreed that this has already happened in the previous rezonings in
Hacienda and it could potentially happen here with the next RHNA cycles. He asked if this could
be something included in the growth management discussions. Councilmember McGovern
agreed that she thinks the public process and task force process has been shown to work in
Pleasanton and appreciates the time taken and hard work of staff.
Mayor Hosterman thanked Commissioners, task force members, and staff.
Motion carried by the following vote:
Ayes: Councilmembers Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman
Noes: None
Absent: None
MATTERS INITIATED BY COUNCIL - None
COUNCIL REPORTS - None
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:35 p.m. The Council extended
a tribute to our nation's men and women serving in the military. We wish to honor the memories
of those who have died in past wars in defense of our country, including those who have died in
the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Res-e Ily subm ed,
a
ar n z 110 City Clerk
City Council Minutes Page 14 of 14 July 19,2011
