THE CITY OF 05
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pL£ASANTON-
October 4, 2011
Community Development
Engineering Division
TITLE: ACCEPT PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS PERFORMED BY AMERICAN
ASPHALT REPAIR & RESURFACING CO., INC. FOR THE ANNUAL
SLURRY SEAL OF VARIOUS CITY STREETS PROJECT, CIP NO. 095004
SUMMARY
This annual preventative maintenance project consisted of improving the roadway
surface on various City streets by applying Type II black volcanic aggregate slurry seal
coating. The project also included replacing all existing traffic striping and markers.
City Council awarded this construction contract to American Asphalt Repair and
Resurfacing Company on July 20, 2010. Construction of the project is now complete
and ready for City Council acceptance.
RECOMMENDATION
1. Accept the project as complete.
2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the project.
3. Authorize payment of the retention in the amount of $22,685.89 to American
Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing Co. Inc. thirty days after recordation of the Notice of
Completion.
4. Authorize the transfer of $366,784 in remaining budgeted funds to the Annual
Slurry Seal of Various Streets Project, CIP No 115004.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
This project is part of the City's preventative maintenance efforts and is expected to
extend the life of the streets, thereby reducing long-term operation and maintenance
costs. $593,819 was budgeted for this project in the Capital Improvement Program
(CIP). The project budget includes funds from fiscal years 2007-08, 2008-09, and 2009-
10. The project was completed for a total cost of $227,035. Staff recommends the
remaining balance of$366,784 be transferred into the FY 2010-2011 Annual Slurry Seal
project, CIP No. 115004.
