CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> COUNTY OF ALAMEDA <br /> STATE OF CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />URGING THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES <br />TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS SU~'~'ICIENT TO COMMENCE <br />THE ALAMEM)A CREEK FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT <br /> <br /> ~, Alameda Creek in southern Alameda County, California, <br />~as repeatedly caused floods and resulted in extensive damage to <br />0uildings and structures, roads and other facilities in Alameda <br />~ounty; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such flooding seriously impairs the useful develop- <br />Lent of thousands of acres of land which development could provide <br />lomes, businesses and industries for the thousands of persons who <br />~re migrating to the San Francisco Bay Area; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, impairment of development is adversely affecting the <br />~ities of Fremont, Hayward, Livermore, Union City, Newark and <br />)leasanton and various unincorporated areas in Alameda County; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, construction of the Alameda Creek Flood Control <br />~roJect would assist in alleviating current unemployment in <br />~lameda County, and coordinate with local plans to use funds from <br />~ale of bonds already approved; and <br /> <br /> ~AS, exhaustive surveys and studies of the Alameda Creek <br />)roblem have been undertaken by the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers <br />)ver a period of approximately 12 years; and <br /> <br /> %~EREAS, said studies have resulted in a report showing con- <br />~truction necessary to eliminate flooding of Alameda Creek, which <br />~onstruction may be undertaken with necessary authorization and <br />'unds; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the elimination of flooding would result in great <br />~conomic benefit to the area now subjected to floods and to the <br />thole of Alameda County; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFOPLE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the <br />lity of Pleasanton does hereby strongly urge the Congress of the <br />~ited States to authorize and appropriate funds necessary for the <br />mn~.diate construction of such facilities necessary to eliminate <br />'looding by Alameda Creek; <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all other agencies involved with <br />.he Alameda Creek Flood Control Project are hereby urged to assist <br />n bringing the urgency of this project to the attention of appro- <br />priate Federal agencies and officials in order that this project <br />my be undertaken as soon as possible. <br /> <br />DATED: March 20, 1961. <br /> <br />.TTEST: <br /> <br />WARREN R.
