A, <br /> COUNTY OF <br /> STATE OF CALIFORNi,,N <br /> <br /> 3274 <br /> <br />URGING ~D~ WIDEN~G OF PLEAS~TON- <br />S~OL-NILES C~ON RO~ ~DERPASS <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Pleasanton-Sunol-Niles Canyon Road is used by <br />an increasing number of vehicles per day in travel between <br />Southern Alameda County and Eastern Alameda County; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the right-of-way of said Pleasanton-Sunol Road is <br />restricted by the underpass of the Southern Pacific Railroad <br />located approximately three miles southerly of Pleasanton, <br />California; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, said underpass is so narrow as to constitute a <br />serious hazard to life and property; and <br /> <br /> WREKEAS, said underpass has been the scene of numerous <br />serious accidents, and would require extensive changes in order <br />to prevent such accidents and the resulting loss of life and <br />property; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED as follows: <br /> <br /> 1. The City Council does hereby urge the Board of Super- <br />visors of Alameda County and the Southern Pacific Railroad <br />Company, to expedite all engineering, financing and other plans <br />necessary to enlarge and straighten said underpass. <br /> <br /> 2. The City Council is of the opinion that any reconstruc- <br />tion of said underpass should not wait for completion of vague <br />plans concerning railroad service through the Amador Livermore <br />Valley, but should be accomplished immediately in the interest <br />of public safety. <br /> <br /> 3. The City Clerk is hereby instructed to forward copies <br />of this Resolution to the private companies involved, the <br />Public Utilities Co~ntssion of the State of California, the <br />Alameda County Board of Supervisors, and other State and County <br />officials, as well as interested civic groups. <br /> <br />DATED: February 26 1962. <br /> <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br />City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
