THE CITY OF 06 <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pL£ASANTONo <br /> August 16, 2011 <br /> Community Development <br /> Engineering Division <br /> TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS, AND AWARD <br /> CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO AJW CONSTRUCTION IN THE <br /> AMOUNT OF $101,440 FOR THE ANNUAL SIDEWALK AND <br /> INTERSECTION RAMP INSTALLATIONS PROJECT, CIP NO. 105005 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Bids have been received for the Annual Sidewalk and Intersection Ramp Installations <br /> project, CIP No. 105005, arid staff is recommending award of the construction contract <br /> to the lowest responsible bidder, AJW Construction in the amount of $101,440. This <br /> work will consist of removing and replacing existing concrete sidewalk, intersection <br /> ramps, and curb and gutter. Work will also include installing new intersection ramps <br /> and sidewalks at various locations (see attachment 1). <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve the plans arid specifications for this project. <br /> 2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract for the project to <br /> AJW Construction of Oakland, California, in the amount of $101,440. <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above construction contract. <br /> 4. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute <br /> contract change orders for a contingency amount not to exceed $20,288 (20% of <br /> the construction contract), for necessary related subject project work. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> This project is part of an ongoing annual program that replaces and upgrades existing <br /> infrastructure and will reduce future maintenance costs. Funding for this project will be <br /> provided by the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) project, Annual Sidewalk and <br /> Intersection Ramp Installations (CIP No. 105005). A summary of funding and estimated <br /> expenditures is presented in Attachment 3. <br />
