THE CITY OF 06 CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT pL£ASANTONo August 16, 2011 Community Development Engineering Division TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS, AND AWARD CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO AJW CONSTRUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF $101,440 FOR THE ANNUAL SIDEWALK AND INTERSECTION RAMP INSTALLATIONS PROJECT, CIP NO. 105005 SUMMARY Bids have been received for the Annual Sidewalk and Intersection Ramp Installations project, CIP No. 105005, arid staff is recommending award of the construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, AJW Construction in the amount of $101,440. This work will consist of removing and replacing existing concrete sidewalk, intersection ramps, and curb and gutter. Work will also include installing new intersection ramps and sidewalks at various locations (see attachment 1). RECOMMENDATION 1. Approve the plans arid specifications for this project. 2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract for the project to AJW Construction of Oakland, California, in the amount of $101,440. 3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above construction contract. 4. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute contract change orders for a contingency amount not to exceed $20,288 (20% of the construction contract), for necessary related subject project work. FINANCIAL STATEMENT This project is part of an ongoing annual program that replaces and upgrades existing infrastructure and will reduce future maintenance costs. Funding for this project will be provided by the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) project, Annual Sidewalk and Intersection Ramp Installations (CIP No. 105005). A summary of funding and estimated expenditures is presented in Attachment 3.
