DISCUSSION <br /> Bids <br /> Sealed bids for this project were opened on May 17, 2011. There were four bids <br /> received, ranging from the low bid amount of $2,086,480.70 to $2,276,276.00 as <br /> compared to the engineer's estimate of $2,239,000 for the project (see attached Bid <br /> Summary). <br /> The low bid of $2,086,480.70 was received from O'Grady Paving, Inc. of Mountain <br /> View, California. Past work performed by O'Grady Paving, Inc. was verified to be <br /> satisfactory. Therefore, staff recommends award of the construction contract to the <br /> lowest responsible bidder, O'Grady Paving, Inc. <br /> Budget <br /> Based on previous similar projects, staff is requesting a 15% project contingency in the <br /> amount of $312,972. Typical pavement change order work relates to isolated soil <br /> conditions that require its removal and replacement.
