THE CITY OF 10 <br /> m m I III CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pLE ASANTON. <br /> April 19, 2011 <br /> Community Development <br /> Engineering Division <br /> TITLE: ADOPT A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE ACTIVATION OF <br /> SOUTHBOUND 1 -680 RAMP METERS IN PLEASANTON <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Recent ramp metering efforts along 1 -580 have significantly improved travel times and <br /> reduced cut - through traffic during the morning and afternoon commutes. Southbound 1- <br /> 680 ramp metering in Pleasanton is expected to provide similar benefits during the <br /> morning commute. In addition to the improved freeway operations, the activation should <br /> attract additional commuters to the freeway system and away from local Pleasanton <br /> streets. Staff will work with Caltrans to determine the optimal metering rates to minimize <br /> the local impact and maximize the operational benefits. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Adopt a resolution supporting the activation of southbound 1 -680 ramp meters in <br /> Pleasanton to improve freeway traffic operations and reduce regional cut - through traffic <br /> on local Pleasanton streets. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> There is no financial impact as a result of this recommendation. <br />
