Ayes: Councilmembers Cook- Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Mayor Hosterman
Noes: None
Absent: Councilmember Thorne
Abstain: None
MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
14. Presentation by Greg Hoaglin of PG &E recognizing the City of Pleasanton for its 2010
Commercial Energy Efficiency Program of 1.018 mega watt reduction
Roxanne Cruz, Public Affairs Representative, introduced the PG &E team of Greg Hoaglin,
Executive Account Manager, and Santino Byrnezanni, Andrea Schumer, and Brian Standish.
Andrea Schumer, Account Manager, PG &E, stated City staff approached PG &E in 2009 to form
a partnership to work towards a mutual goal of reducing a megawatt of energy in 2010. The
outreach was organized in phases, with the first as reaching out to small and medium sized
businesses. She said PG &E representatives and staff met with business owners in the City and
with the City's Sustainability Manager, Laura Ryan, to work with the largest energy users in the
City. They kicked off the outreach program with an Energy Luncheon with property managers of
Hacienda Business Park to inform them of the various energy efficient programs offered. The
City's facilities were also audited, as well as local schools. She noted that the City exceeded its
goal of over 1 megawatt of energy saved in 2010, and they look forward in continuing to work
together as partners in saving energy.
Greg Hoaglin, Executive Manager of PG &E's East Bay Energy Solutions and Service,
congratulated and recognized the City for its leadership in the community, presented awards to
Leo Lopez, Thomas Fullam and Daniel Smith for their leadership and vision, and presented an
Energy Efficiency Award to the City for outstanding leadership in energy efficiency.
City Manager Fialho also recognized Laura Ryan, Sustainability Coordinator, and Craig Higgins,
Assistant Director of Public Works.
15. Public Comment
David Miller spoke of the pension workshop held six weeks ago and requested the Council
provide an update on how the City will address the contract negotiation process. He reported
attending a regional pension reform meeting in San Francisco, hosted by the Bay Area Council,
and reported that in response to the City's request, he has removed a logo from their website;
www.ptowncitizens.com.
Kay Ayala encouraged individuals to hold similar forums where all interests are represented,
requested the City provide an update on the Lin's proposed return with a development plan,
stating that per referendum law, they cannot legally return with a plan until June 9, 2011.
Mayor Hosterman confirmed that an application had not been received by the City.
Councilmember McGovern questioned public comment protocols, and City Attorney Lowell
explained that the Mayor, unless overruled by the Council, makes the determination whether
comments can be directed to staff. Typically, a member of the public should pose the question
to the Council, and the Council should ask staff to respond if they can do so.
City Council Minutes Page 3 of 8 March 15, 2011
