Ordinance No. 1211 <br />Page Two <br /> <br /> (d)Furnishing of music in any public place in the <br /> area. <br /> <br /> (e) The general promotion of retail trade activities in <br /> the area. <br /> <br />Section 7: System of Charges. All businesses, trades, or <br /> professions within the boundaries of the district shall, <br /> commencing July 1985, be subject to an annual charge in <br /> an amount or amounts set forth below: <br /> <br /> (a) Assessment shall be equal to two times the annual <br /> City business license tax except that there shall <br /> be a minimum charge of Seventy-five Dollars <br /> ($75.00) per year and a maximum charge of Two <br /> Hundred Dollars ($200.00) per year. <br /> <br /> (b) Any business exempt from the City's business <br /> license tax shall pay an annual charge of Two <br /> Hundred Dollars ($200.00) per year, except as <br /> provided by subsection (c). <br /> <br /> (c) Nonprofit tax exempt businesses shall be exempt <br /> from the annual charges. <br /> <br /> Section 8: Voluntary Contribution. Any business which is exempt <br /> from the payment of a business license tax by reason of <br /> the provision of the Constitution of the United States <br /> or the State of California, may make voluntary <br /> contributions to said district for the purposes provided <br /> in this Ordinance. <br /> Section 9: New Business Exemption. Any new business established <br /> in the area of this district shall be exempt from any <br /> tax under the provisions of this ordinance for the <br /> license year during which it commenced business. This <br /> shall not be deemed to apply to an existing business <br /> that has changed ownership or location within the <br /> district. <br /> <br /> Section 10: Findings. <br /> <br /> (a) It appears in the public interest that such an area <br /> be established within the City of Pleasanton <br /> because a thriving downtown serves: <br /> <br /> i. to preserve and enhance pleasanton's heritage, <br /> <br /> ii. to give character and identity to this <br /> community, <br /> <br /> iii. to make a wider range of shopping, dining and <br /> community events available to our citizens, <br /> <br /> <br />
