CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, ALAMEDA <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 03-032 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ACTIVATING THE EASTBOUND <br />1-580 ON RAMP METERING SYSTEM ADJACENT TO THE CITY <br />OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton and Caltrans have an 1-580 Freeway Maintenance <br /> Agreement; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, metering on ramp traffic at freeway interchanges has been found to be very <br /> effective in improving traffic flow and reducing traffic collisions on freeways; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, traffic metering signals have been installed on the on ramps to 1-580 from the <br /> Hopyard Road, Hacienda Drive and Santa Rita Road interchanges; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the City's traffic model shows that traffic metering could not only reduce freeway <br />congestion, but also reduce regional cut-through traffic along local City roadways; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Caltrans staff has agreed to work with City staff in operating the on ramp metering <br /> system to facilitate both improved freeway and surface street traffic flow; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the new eastbound 1-580 auxiliary lane between Santa Rita Road and E1 Charro <br /> Road is scheduled to be opened to the public in April or May 2003; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the traffic metering system can be activated at no-cost to the City. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: <br /> <br />Supports Caltrans' activation of the eastbound 1-580 on ramp metering system in <br />Pleasanton in conformance with the provisions outlined in Exhibit "A," <br />Agreement for Cooperative Management of the 1-580 Corridor, concurrent with <br />the opening of the eastbound 1-580 auxiliary lane between Santa Rita Road and E1 <br />Charro Road. <br /> <br /> <br />
