THE CITY OF 08 -- -- "" CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT 08 PL£ASANTON® January 18, 2010 Administrative Services TITLE: INTRODUCE A TENTATIVE AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF PLEASANTON AND THE PLEASANTON CITY EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION /AFSCME LOCAL 955 FOR A TERM ENDING MARCH 31, 2013 SUMMARY The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City of Pleasanton and the Pleasanton City Employees Association /AFSCME Local 955 ( PCEA/AFSCME) expired on October 31, 2010. Representatives from the City and the PCEA/AFSCME have met and conferred in good faith and reached a tentative agreement. The Union membership ratified the tentative agreement on November 9, 2010. The City's practice is to introduce the matter at a public hearing and provide an opportunity for staff and City Council to receive comments from the public. The second public discussion is the final step of presenting the tentative agreement to the Pleasanton City Council for approval and to authorize the City Manager to finalize and execute the final agreement. RECOMMENDATION Receive comments from the public regarding the tentative agreement reached between the City and Pleasanton City Employees Association /AFSCME Local 955. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The savings from the PCEA/AFSCME employees participating in the costs of the pension program represents approximately $722,000 for the duration of the contract. Other savings are noted in the agenda report entitled "Managing Personnel Costs" since it includes savings associated with other represented and unrepresented groups.
