Reasons for Building (Continued)
• Don't want to uproot the kids. They have made close bonds with neighborhood
kids.
• Preserve our home with existing backyard which accommodates us to practice
outdoor sports with the kids, such as baseball and soccer.
• We are partial to our neighborhood and love its location.
• Close proximity to both the elementary and middle schools
o To do what we can in lowering our carbon footprint, the kids and 1 will
walk to school, almost daily.
o Trina and Rodney volunteer daily and being in such close proximity to the
school is vital to us to give back to our educators and help out the school.
• In addition, in the event of any health issues with our parents we are planning
ahead to have enough space to be able to accommodate a parent and provide care
for them. We don't have a spare room planned, but we can shuffle kids around to
make it work temporarily. With recent passing of my parent, we would like to
have the opportunity to have the living parent stay for an extended visit and help
him with his grieving process.
• Our lot size and shape does not allow us the ability to create the space we require
with a single story addition
o We can't extend our home the way our rear neighbors did when they
added an additional 1000 SQFT to their home
• After the Zoning Administration Hearing the appellants purchased a trampoline
and placed it at the closest point possible to our kid's bedroom window. This has
resulted in an increase in noise level that exceeded the City Ordinance noise level
which has created stress at night when we put our kids to sleep.
o With keeping with the Pleasanton Community of Character the applicant
had politely asked rear neighbors (appellants) to lower the noise level at
night, but the appellants not only refused but ignored the request and
escalated the noise level. The police were called to mediate the situation
peacefully. Officer Robert Shuffield, from the City of Pleasanton Police
Department, viewed video that was taken, showing the noise being
generated and the requests being ignored by the appellants. An Incident
report was created by Officer Shuffield. The noise level still continues to
be an issue.
o Because the noise issue still persists, it is important to move our daughters
bedroom away from noise and place their rooms upstairs, over 30 ft away
from the rear neighbors trampoline.
