(

Commissioner Sullivan noted that he was not concerned about parking problems
downtown, because that would lead to better public transportation, as well as the addition
of transportation system management by local businesses.

Commissioner Roberts noted that she ordinarily would have opposed this item because of
the parking situation, but would support it because so much of the additional square
footage was taken by the elevator. She noted that employees could park on Peter Street,
rather than on the communal lots for the retail businesses.

Chairperson Maas inquired whether a downtown traffic incentive could be proposed
similar to that used in Hacienda. She noted that many employees park directly in front of
their offices.

Commissioner Sullivan stated that the Downtown Specific Plan encouraged a downtown
transportation system management. The Planning Commission's opinion was that a plan
to implement it would be most effective.

Chairperson Maas would like to hear from that department regarding downtown parking
incentives.

Mr. Swift advised that was one of the major projects to be addressed in the coming year.
Staff would work with the Downtown Association to not only develop new parking, but
r- to manage the existing parking more effectively. He noted that most older downtown had
similar problems, and that many downtown associations have successfully managed
parking programs.

Chairperson Maas asked that staff update the Planning Commission on this subject.

Commissioner Arkin moved to approve PDR-226 as recommended by staff.
Commissioner Kameny seconded the motion.

ROLL CALL VOTE

AYES:
NOES:
ABSTAIN:
ABSENT:

Commissioners Arkin, Kameny, Maas, Roberts, and Sullivan
None
None
None

Resolution No. PC-2002-39 was entered and adopted as motioned.

b.

PDR-225, Mitch Pereira
Request for design review approval to allow the construction of an approximately
7,865 square foot, two-story commercial building on a portion of the existing
Pleasanton Station property located at 55 West Angela Street, Pleasanton.
