r

b. Other Matters

Commissioner Roberts requested to see examples of the various types of roof slopes to be
used as a reference, especially regarding slope ratios. Mr. Iserson replied that he could
provide those.

Commissioner Roberts noted that she had received numerous complaints about the colors
of the Pleasanton Hotel.

Mr. Iserson advised that he had received a lot of comments about the Pleasanton Hotel as
well, and that they were mostly negative. He noted that the colors were the result of a
PDA design committee, which felt that Victorians should be bright and colorful.

Chairperson Maas expressed concern about the length of the construction process, and
cited a home on the corner St. Mary's Road as an example.

Commissioner Arkin advised that he would be in favor of an ordinance that would set a
reasonable time limit on construction. He suggested that a year might be an appropriate
limit.

--

Larissa Seto advised that staff had discussed the issue, and was working toward
developing an ordinance or guideline to address the length of construction time. She
noted that a large commercial building should have a longer construction time than a
residential home. Staff was working on such guidelines that were in conformance with
the California Building Code, as well as trying to tighten up the length of the construction
process.

In response to Chairperson Maas' question whether a Commissioner may request for an
item to be agendized, Larissa Seto replied that they could. In the event that a
Commissioner requested to agendize an item that required a great deal of staff work, but
there was little general interest in the item, staff would like to respond and request
consensus from the entire Commission on the item.

Chairperson Maas believed that was a reasonable course of action.

Commissioner Sullivan advised that he had attended a meeting in Sacramento on June 10,
2002, which addressed energy. He noted that there were attendees from several other
cities, including San Francisco, Berkeley, San Jose, Arcada, and Santa Monica.

-

PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

June 12,2002

Page 14
