Chairperson Maas advised that she does not want to see the plaza area used as a designated
,"'" smoking area and asked if it could be relocated to the north or east side. Mr. Graeser advised
that they could look at this. Discussion ensued regarding potential alternative smoking areas.

Commissioner Kameny thanked the applicant for working with staff, Mr. Cannon, and the
Planning Commission, noting that he appreciates the applicant's perseverance.

Larry Cannon, peer-reviewing architect, stated that he feels the applicant has done a really nice
job. He advised that he still prefers the tower orientation that is perpendicular to the street. He
advised that he prefers a different tower design because it relates to the other elements on the
building. Chairperson Maas asked for Mr. Cannon's opinion regarding the proposed glass,
noting that because the building is such a focal point, she wants to be sure that the glass will
obscure the window coverings. Mr. Cannon advised that this color will cause views to the
outside to look dinghy, but it should mitigate to some degree the views of the window coverings
from the outside.

THE PUBLIC HEARING WAS CLOSED

Commissioner Kameny advised that he concurs with staff regarding the tower alignment and
design, noting that he feels it does more for the landscaping.

!

Commissioner Arkin moved to approve Case PUD-81-30-84D, subject to the conditions in
Exhibit "B," with the following modifications:
. The front plaza area be designated as a non-smoking area.
. Some small trees shall be planted along the rear (east) elevation, with the placement,
size and species to be worked out with staff.
. The pavers for the pathway on the north side ofthe building shall be connected through
the drive aisle.
Commissioner Kameny seconded the motion.

ROLL CALL VOTE

AYES:
NOES:
ABSENT:
ABSTAIN:

Commissioners Arkin, Karneny, Maas, Roberts, and Sullivan
None
None
None

Resolution No. PC-2001-46 was entered and adopted as motioned.

Commissioner Arkin expressed his appreciation to the applicant for meeting him at his work to
discuss the project.

The Planning Commission recessed for a break at 8:00 p.m.

Chairperson Maas reconvened the meeting at 8:10 p.m.

-

PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES

September 26, 2001

Page 6
