Tom Fox, President of the Downtown Pleasanton Rotary Club, introduced Pamela Shelbert, President of the Tri- Valley Rotary Club, and Ryan Damiano, President of the Pleasanton North Rotary Club. He discussed the mission, service work, and Rotary's worldwide effort to eradicate polio, which was currently occurring in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nigeria and India. They have partnered with the Bill Gates Foundation and he asked that the Council proclaim World Polio Day on Sunday, October 24, 2010. 12. Public Comment Bart Hughes addressed the Council regarding public employee pensions. He voiced concerns with the cost of pension benefits and sustainability, presented information concerning population and inflation increases over the last six years, discussed public costs, and asked the Council to address the situation. Kathy Dowding October said 13 soldiers were killed on October 13 and 14, and read the names of 31 American soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since the last regular Council meeting. Angelina Summers addressed the Council concerning ADA requirements and the color of curb cuts in Pleasanton. She asked why the color, yellow, was chosen for the City and asked that they be grey in color similar to the City of Livermore's, which is less obtrusive. Mr. Smith said staff will meet and receive input from the disabled community at the November 5, 2010 ADA meeting and return to the City Council. Carmen Rivers - Hendrickson addressed the Council regarding accessibility of the door at the Firehouse Theatre and asked that a handicap push button be installed, as well as the Safeway planters. Karen DeBaca Martens addressed the Council concerning campaign contribution and Measure D endorsements by Councilmembers. She also spoke about the need to hold a session regarding PERS retirement benefits so the public understands how pension data is calculated. PUBLIC HEARINGS AND OTHER MATTERS 13. Public Hearing: PUD- 02 -07M and PCUP -210, Pleasanton Gateway, L.L.C. — Consider the introduction of an ordinance modifying the Bernal Property PUD development plan and a resolution approving a Conditional Use Permit for the operation of a grocery store and drive - through uses for a mixed -use development including 129,370 square feet of commercial /retail floor area and 588,781 square feet of office floor area on a 39.22 -acre site located at 6750 Bernal Avenue, between the northbound I- 680 /Bernal Avenue exit ramp and Valley Avenue; and consider a resolution approving the Mitigated Negative Declaration Community Development Director Dolan presented the project as proposed to be amended; the northern most 12.5 acres would become the retail center anchored by a 58,000 square foot Safeway Store. The remaining 26.7 acres would remain for an office development comprising of a similar configuration with varying square footages. Provided are 612 parking spaces, and the next largest building is proposed to be a pharmacy with a drive - through. There are two small drive - thru's comprise of a proposed bank off of Bernal and a restaurant. Remaining shops will comprise of various retail stores.
