THE CITY OF 2
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
pLEASANTON.
August 17, 2010
Administrative Services
TITLE: RATIFY THE CITY MANAGER'S EXECUTION OF AMENDMENT TO AN
EXISITING CONTRACT WITH INNOVATIVE CLAIMS SOLUTIONS, INC.
TO PROVIDE THIRD -PARTY ADMINISTRATION OF THE WORKERS'
COMPENSATION PROGRAM THROUGH JUNE 2011
SUMMARY
Many municipalities hire professional third -party administrators with the expertise to
handle the challenges of the specialized field of workers compensation administration.
The City retained Innovative Claims Services, Inc. (ICS) in 2001 to provide third -party
administration for the City's workers compensation program. After an extensive review
earlier this year to explore two options to provide workers' compensation third -party
administration, staff recommended retaining the services of ICS for an additional year.
The City Manager has executed a one -year amendment to the contract to ensure
continuous coverage of this critical service. Prior to the expiration of this one -year
extension to the contract on June 30, 2011, staff will conduct a "Request for Proposal"
process.
RECOMMENDATION
Ratify the City Manager's execution of amendment to the existing three -year contract
with Innovative Claims Solutions, Inc. for an additional year thought June 30, 2011
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
The proposed fee for the one -year amendment is $144,876. There are sufficient funds
in the 2010 -2011 Budget to cover these expenses.
