Karen DeBaca Martens referred to an email she sent to both the Council and City Attorney concerning signatures of 3 Councilmembers on the argument for Measure D which represents a quorum. She said she was supporting no on Measure D. Jan Batcheller encouraged the public to vote yes on Measure D. Fred Norman asked that the 3 Councilmembers running for re- election tell the voters of Pleasanton whether they support or oppose the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as this will determine the vote for some. He asked, rather than arguing this is not a Pleasanton issue, that they consider Pleasanton's share of the cost of these wars, the Pleasanton citizens currently serving there, and the Pleasanton soldier who was recently lost. He invited the Council and public to join Pleasantonians for Peace in its peaceful anti -war demonstration. Becky Dennis urged the public to vote yes on Measure D to secure their access to 496 acres of oak woodlands and trails in the southeast hills. Dick Quigley spoke in support of Measure D. Lee Fulton spoke in opposition to the Oak Grove project and encourage no votes on Measure D. For the purposes of clarification, Councilmember Cook- Kallio stated that she and Vice -Mayor Thorne drafted the ballot argument for Measure D; the Mayor simply signed it. Kay Ayala spoke in opposition of Measure D. Dolores Bengtson voiced strong support for Measure D. Allen Roberts urged citizens to vote no on Measure D and save Pleasanton's backyard. Kathy Dowding read the names of the 12 American soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since the last Council meeting. She invited the Tri- Valley to join Pleasantonians for Peace at its next peaceful protest. John Carroll reiterated his previous request on behalf of the Alameda Creek Alliance to conduct a peer environmental review of the EIRs for both Staples Ranch and the Oak Grove projects. Angelina Summers said she has not received a response to her questions posed about the Sharks Ice Rink on January 19. Mayor Hosterman assured her she would be contacted by a member of staff and would receive answers to her questions. Councilmember Sullivan said that in addition to Ms. Summers' comments on January 19, there was discussion at the time of approval, and staff was to return with a report which identified the costs and other details. Mr. Fialho confirmed and said staff was also asked to return with projections and recommendations for the next several years.
