g) In response to questions, staff did explain that insurance for landslides was not
available to private property owners, or to GHADs, and hence the need for
reserve funds to accumulate by the GHAD assessments.
Based on the interest expressed at this public meeting, and the City's interest in
community participation, a public notice will be sent to all the residents within each of
the GHADs notifying them that this staff report is available on the City's website (in
addition to the normal postcard noticing information).
The ENGEO Contract
ENGEO is the geotechnical firm the GHAD Board selected initially for the monitoring of
the GHADs. ENGEO advises GHADs throughout the bay Area, and staff has been very
satisfied with their monitoring work. However, because of the interest from the
residents about soliciting proposals from more geotechnical firms for the GHAD
monitoring work, staff is recommending that the existing contract with ENGEO be
extended on a task basis, rather than for an entire year. This will allow for ENGEO to
conduct site visits and necessary reconnaissance reports after the winter rains, as well
as allow staff sufficient time to research other geotechnical consultants that might also
be available and qualified to monitor GHADs. In the next few months, staff will bring
back a report making a recommendation to the Board for a geotechnical engineering
firm to monitor the GHADs.
Respectfully submitted,
th
r cuc
Brian Dolan David P.
