RESOLUTION NO. 10 -349 <br /> A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> SUPPORTING THE CALIFORNIA FAIR ELECTIONS ACT (PROPOSITION 15) <br /> WHEREAS, the current finance system for political campaigns in California burdens <br /> candidates with the need to engage in almost continual fundraising and thus decreases the time <br /> available to carry out their public responsibilities; and <br /> WHEREAS, the current campaign finance system often rewards those candidates who <br /> raise the most money; and <br /> WHEREAS, the California legislature passed, and Governor Schwarzenegger signed, <br /> the California Fair Elections Act to allow the voters to pass a Fair Elections pilot project and to <br /> meet the citizens' desire to ensure the integrity of future Secretaries of State to administer <br /> lobbyist disclosure programs; and <br /> WHEREAS, the California Fair Elections Act will provide a model for the City of <br /> Pleasanton to consider should it decide to revise its own local voluntary campaign expenditure <br /> limitation regulations. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE, AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: <br /> SECTION 1. The City Council supports the California Fair Elections Act that will <br /> appear on the June 8, 2010 ballot to establish a pilot program providing public financing for <br /> Secretary of State Candidates in the 2014 and 2018 election campaigns. <br /> PASSED, APPROVED, AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Pleasanton at <br /> a regular meeting held on April 6, 2010. <br /> I, Karen Diaz, City Clerk of the City of Pleasanton, California, certify that the foregoing <br /> resolution was adopted by the City Council at a regular meeting held on the 6 day of April, <br /> 2010, by the following vote: <br /> Ayes: Councilmembers Cook- Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman <br /> Noes: None <br /> Absent: None <br /> Abstain: None <br /> Pbt/L <br /> Karen Diaz, City Clerk <br /> APPROVED AS TO FORM: <br /> Jona Lowell, City Attorney <br /> 1 <br />
