THE CITY OF A
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT }V(
pL£ ASANTONo
April 6, 2010
Law Department
TITLE: RESOLUTION REGARDING SUPPORT OF THE CALIFORNIA FAIR
ELECTIONS ACT (PROPOSITION 15)
BACKGROUND
At the meeting of March 2, 2010, Joe Ely asked the City Council to consider supporting
Proposition 15, the California Fair Elections Act. The measure has qualified for the
June 2010 ballot. The City Council directed that staff provide it more information about
the measure before it could consider taking a position. Under cover of a March 9, 2010
memorandum, the City Attorney provided a fifty plus page packet of information on
Proposition 15 to the Council (a copy of said packet is on file in the office of the City
Clerk, will upon request be emailed to any interested person, and will be available for
inspection at the meeting of April 6). A majority of the City Council indicated on March
16, 2010 that it would like to consider whether or not to adopt a resolution of support for
the measure and asked the matter be put on the agenda for April 6.
RECOMMENDATION
Consider adoption of a resolution endorsing Proposition 15.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There is no financial impact upon the City stemming from this action.
