Introduction of Teen Poet Laureates Vivienne Chen and Nicholas Quan by Poet Laureate <br /> Deborah Grossman <br /> Councilmember Sullivan introduced Poet Laureate Deborah Grossman. <br /> Ms. Grossman thanked the Council for its support of civic arts and the Poet Laureate program, <br /> and its recognition of the two Teen Poets Laureate. She introduced Vivienne Chen of Amador <br /> High School and Nicholas Quan of Foothill High School. Both have taken time from their busy <br /> schedules to visit both Hart and Pleasanton Middle Schools with her and have spoken to over <br /> 700 students about their love of writing and the positive impact of communication. They will also <br /> participate in the upcoming Pleasanton Poetry Prose and the Arts Festival on April 17 and 18. <br /> Vivienne Chen said writing has always been a passion of hers and to be able to speak to young <br /> students about this passion has been a tremendous inspirational experience for her. She <br /> provided a reading of her poem, "Match." <br /> Nicholas Quan echoed Ms. Chen's comments and shared his appreciation for the Poet Laureate <br /> program. He provided a reading of his poem, "Hot Blood." <br /> 9. Commendation recognizing Alameda County Fair for winning 52 Western Fair Awards <br /> Councilmember Sullivan presented the commendation and introduced President Rick Pickering <br /> and Marketing Director April Mitchell of the Alameda County Fair. <br /> 10. Public Comment <br /> Castlewood County Club employees Marisol Gil, Francisca Carranza, Aejandro Luna Cruz <br /> addressed Council concerning their 20 -day and continued lockout by Management due to labor <br /> negotiation issues and requested any support the Council could offer they in terms of working <br /> with Castlewood to continue negotiations to restore their jobs. <br /> Mildreth Gil, daughter of Marisol Gil also asked the Council to help in any way possible. <br /> City Council Minutes Page 2 of 12 March 16, 2010 <br />
