BACKGROUND
On May 19, 2009, the City Council awarded the contract for the referenced project to
Rosas Brothers Construction in the amount of $279,882. The City Council also
authorized the Director of Community Development to approve change orders up to the
project contingency amount of $55,976.
DISCUSSION
The subject project consisted of removing and replacing 1270 feet of concrete curb and
gutter, 2168 square feet of sidewalk and driveway, and 125 complete ADA access
ramps. It also included installing 40 sets of truncated domes at existing ADA access
ramp locations. Project locations are listed on Attachment 1.
Change orders totaling $25,272 included additional work at the intersection of Amaral
Circle and Kottinger Drive involving replacement of curb and gutter, sidewalk, apron,
and valley gutter, and installation of two ADA access ramps to mitigate a water ponding
issue when there was substantial rain. Work at the intersection of Meadowlark Drive
and Tapestry Way to resolve a similar water ponding issue was also included in the
change orders.
This project is expected to improve drainage flow; reduce citizen complaints and the
associated staff time investigating and resolving sidewalk tripping issues; and improve
ADA accessibility within the project limits.
BUDGET
A summary of the project funding sources and expenditures is presented in
Attachment 2. Since a portion of the funding for this project was obtained from the
Annual Resurfacing project, CIP No. 085003, staff recommends the transfer of the
remaining project balance in the amount of $40,578 to CIP No.095003 (Annual
Resurfacing of Various City Streets). The Annual Resurfacing project is being
presented for acceptance concurrently with this Annual Curb and Gutter project; the
balance of that project may be used to assist in funding American Recovery and
Reinvestment Act (ARRA) grant projects.
Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approve 'by:
—1)/ (Catn
Brian Dolan David P.
